The Secrets
to Selling your home in Autumn
Autumn is
extremely popular with sellers and buyers alike, with so many properties on the
market you’ll need to stand out! I’ve
listed some of my amazing secrets to a successful sale in September and
October.
When we think of
Autumn we think of trees shedding leaves, cooler breezes, sales, harvest, shorter
days. The heating comes on in the
morning, showers are warmer and walks are cooler. We love hearty meals and cosy nights in.
Your buyers feel
exactly the same, it’s your job to show them how cosy, warm, cheerful,
delightful and perfect your property is for them. Let’s uncover my secrets:
Lights
and lamps
As the nights draw
in and the days get darker and shorter the light I your home becomes much more
important. Scrap your old energy bulbs
and opt for brighter LED or halogen ones.
A crystal clear light will shine much brighter. Use lighting well in the home, task lighting,
mood lighting and uplifting dark corners works for an instant update and cosy
feel. Install under counter lamps in a
kitchen and a cream silk shade on a lamp in the hallway. Your buyers will love the gentle lights and
be able to see the rooms in all their glory.
Fires
Light them! A log or multi fuel burner not only feels
cosy and warm but smells like autumn. The crackling of the wood burning will entice
them into the heart of the home and they’ll never want to leave
Colours
Cosy colours is a
great way to warm up a cool room. If you
have North facing rooms and those with hard floors need extra warmth injecting,
try soft red, rich burgundy’s, muted biscuits, burnt oranges with some olive
greens. Pro tip: Keep the deeper shades to your accessories,
you home will still feel big.
A softer
touch
Your duvets will
be changed for heavier winter ones. Try
thick duck feather ones, that feel plump and bouncy, duck feather pillow inners
for a luxurious feel. Add texture
too, Mongolian fur cushions to suit and
thick velvet, with a mohair throw across your blanket box or foot stool for an
instant cosy feel. The best part is –
you can take these with you when you sell.
Autumn
Props
Harvest in autumn
is always big news, display fresh veg in baskets in the kitchen ready for a
hearty soup. Use twigs of twisted hazel,
and autumn berries in your vases with warm coloured flowers to brighten up your
décor.

Ensure your
outside photographer is booked for midday.
As the sun doesn’t get as high in the sky you’ll need to avoid long
shadows. The closer to midday the better the picture.
